Lack of meaning is obscured by great busyness -The Informed Heart by Bruno Bettelheim (1960)

It seems in our modern society, we are always busy and distracted, and I wonder if this was set up on purpose.
Why on purpose, you might ask? I am not talking about a conspiracy; rather, I am trying to communicate how everything we do and see comes from a human source.
It all comes from human brains.
Constant busyness and activity equal distraction, which leads to preventing people from contemplating existential questions, and even analyzing their feelings.
If we are always kept busy, we can’t find time to pause and reflect on our lives.
If we do find a second to pause and reflect, we are hit with waves of unresolved emotions, challenging existential questions, and doubts about where we are in life, and when these concepts and feelings arise, we quickly run away and find another distraction to keep us busy from ourselves.
When individuals are constantly occupied with tasks, responsibilities, and commitments, they may not have the time or space to explore their inner selves, contemplate their values and goals, or engage in activities that bring them true fulfillment.
Instead, they may find themselves caught up in a cycle of productivity and distraction, seeking validation or meaning through external achievements or possessions.
Is this kind of lifestyle good for society? What is the alternative?
It is hard to find meaning in tasks that have no meaning.

With so many different choices from cars, food, water, coffee, etc., it often seems at times that all these choices are meaningless and the variety of choices is false.
There are so many different water bottle brands, and at the end of the day, it is only water. Contemplating over what water to choose seems like a meaningless task.
If you think about this concept and plug in other items or tasks, you can see that there are a lot of meaningless tasks we have to face daily which are taking away precious time of our lives.
The amount of negative and positive choices we have in our modern society is immense.
We have far more choices and temptations in our society compared to any other society in human history.
What does this all mean?
Individuals may appear busy and engaged, but deep down in their souls, there lies emptiness or a sense of aimlessness.
Are we being misguided into striving to be physically and mentally busy every second of every day?
What would be the purpose of all of this?
Maybe it is to easily control a population.
Control for what?
For the population to keep spending money, obeying, and never finding purpose because if you find your purpose and are content in life, it doesn’t generate many sales.
If we lose touch with our humanity and forget what it truly means to be human, we risk becoming mere machines driven by consumption and materialism.
There is pressure in a consumer-driven society for us all to be the machines that the economy loves, but we must fight against it.
I believe we can find a balance in this society, and I do feel that there is a shift happening in modern society.
People are getting tired of the same marketing and are searching for meaning and life experiences.
We must rediscover what it means to be simply human.

Lack of meaning is obscured by great busyness -The Informed Heart by Bruno Bettelheim (1960)
Thank you for reading, what do you think?
Is modern society full of distractions to purposely distract us from ourselves, or do you think the opposite that there aren’t many distractions and that nothing is distracting us from ourselves?
