Searching for a home with my family

Second visit to Celebration, FL, to see if we would want to move there. Keep in mind, we have been visiting this place for over 15 years together, and my wife spent her childhood here. We get there early in the morning, and a property manager gives us a tour of a three-story townhouse. The interior and the exterior looks nice and cozy. My kids, 1 and 3 years old, are running around and checking every room, excited to see what is new. As we are looking around the rooms, garage, kitchen, balcony, etc. I begin to imagine us living here, and I feel a bit hollow inside. I felt like it was a fit for us. I looked out the window and saw all these other homes in a row, and wondered if this was for us.

There are playgrounds, trails, a little downtown area, pools, food, and good schools, but for some reason, it isn’t clicking for me. It checks off a lot, and my kids have a blast when we go visit Celebration. For some reason, it feels too manufactured, like I am on a movie set. I always felt this way when I was younger and visited, and I kinda forgot about it or pushed it back in my mind, and now, visiting the place more frequently, these are the thoughts that arise.

Even though I have mixed feelings and I am a bit confused and feel less likely that I want to move my family here, I still feel that we are moving forward in our journey.

You will know in your heart when you find the right place. In my young years of married life and raising kids we moved around a lot–different states. Most of the time I didn’t get to choose where we would be living so I learned to make a home wherever we landed. Thank goodness this worked for me and my family. I’ve lived in my current home for 34 years! I wasn’t all that crazy about it for several years, but I’ve changed things around as time has gone on and I love it now. It has provided a home for teenages, young adults, young marrieds , aging parents, and grandkids from birth to 20. I remember my now almost 20 year old granddaughter telling me when she was 13, “Grandma you don’t have to have a room for us anymore because we’re older and won’t be coming over anymore.” Well, she and her sister still love hanging out in that room at family gatherings. And my grandson healing from a snowboarding accident lived in that bedroom. So, Anthony, if you’re lucky, you will know in your heart when you find the right place, but if you don’t, you will make a home wherever you land.

Wow! Thank you for sharing a part of your life stories with me. I agree with you, and I do live that way. No matter where you are you can make it your home. I am a over thinker and tend to think to much and too long on things. It is a gift and a curse but I wouldnt want it any other way.

I think living in a home for 34 years and having so much family coming in and out is truly amazing and is one of my goals.
