I have two kids, a one-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, and they are my world. Every day, I have so many stories and beautiful moments with them and my wife. I feel like I should share them and write them out so that I won’t forget them, and other people who read might find enjoyment in these stories.
I will be putting these stories and other stories organized into categories.
My son is a physical little guy, and he started walking strongly at 9 months old. He is 16 months old and can run, jump, climb, and squat. He can say many words and know the meaning of them, such as “I want more,” “Remember,” and “What’s that”. The one phrase he says that cracks my family and me up is “Yeah, yeah, yeah”. What “yeah yeah yeah” means is a live concert of the Elton John song “I’m Still Standing”. If he says “yeah, yeah, yeah,” that means to turn on this song on YouTube. After a month, the meaning started to change; now it means that he wants to watch other music videos and dance.
Now, for my daughter this morning, I decided to treat them to some Chick-fil-A breakfast. It is only 3 minutes away on foot, so I put them in the wagon and walk over. It was busy with people in line and eating at the restaurant. We patiently wait, and then as I was ordering my daughter pretends she is Tototro (a Japanese anime movie), she enjoys being different characters, some made up and some from movies and TV, and she really gets into character. She talks in a deep, grumbly voice and says silly things. As I am ordering, she says in Totoro’s voice I go poop in the potty! She says this, and people look at me and then look at her with a concerned face. Then she says it again in Totoro’s voice, and everyone begins to laugh. She sees that they are laughing and looks at me and then them and says it again. I tell everyone, “Sorry, she is getting potty trained”. One guy said, “You have a little comedian on your hands.” I said to him, “Yes, yes, I do”. We go sit down at the booth, and I get the food out for her and my son to eat, and I say, “Emily, you can’t talk about the potty at restaurants”. She says, “I know, Dad, what was Totoro thinking!” I said, “Okay, well, Totoro can’t say that, okay?” and she says, “Oh, Dad, Totoro is so silly sometimes.” I laugh out loud, and we all enjoy our breakfast.
