Pick a career day was in kindergarten, and we all had to dress up as the job we wanted to be when we got older. I was 5 years old and had not one single thought about what I wanted to do or be when I grew up. I only wanted to live in the moment.
Every age that I turn, I am always aware of what age I am and act accordingly. For example, when I was 16 years old in high school, I knew that this would be the last time and the only time when I could feel this young and free before life hits. I knew that I could talk to girls in class, jump over fences, skateboard all night, listen to music, talk really late on the phone to my girlfriend, and say whatever I wanted outloud without much consequences, so I did.
Now, at 30 years old, I understand my age. I understand that from this point on everything will move quickly and I will grow old; my children, my wife, we will all grow old rather quickly, at least in my perspective. I am cherishing every moment I have with them, every moment I have on this planet.
That day in kindergarten, I went as a cop; my mom picked it for me because I told her I didn’t want to be anything. I remember all the kids had these dream jobs like a painter, firefighter, actor, musician, etc.
You would think that by the time I was in high school or even college, I would have figured out something, but I didn’t.
Even at 30 years old, I still don’t know what I want to be or do. I only want to live and love.
I know this sounds cliché, and it doesn’t pay the bills, but it’s true, and the bills are still being paid.
Right now I work as a painter for my dad’s painting company. When people move out of apartments, we go in and paint and patch all the walls, doors, baseboards, and ceilings, and make it look good for the next move-in. I have been doing this for 12 years now (since I was 18 years old), and my dad has been doing it for 27 years. My brother works with us, and he has been doing it for 2 years now.
On the side at night, my wife and I do different digital marketing gigs. We are trying to start a digital marketing company. My wife is a UGC creator and a great one. I help her with getting leads, gigs, organization, creator outreach, scheduling, and handling her social media.
All that to say, I am surviving and trying to figure out how to earn money and be with my wife and kids as much as I can. I know how to create a life that will be memorable for all of us; all I have to do is figure out a way to fund it and still have the free time that is needed. Right now it is working, but we need to generate more income.
Find yourself, fall in love, and explore life.
